Over the years, the Touareg has indeed stretched its legs, or rather, its rear. Then, lo and behold, the third-generation Touareg (2018-2023) swooped in with an astonishing 810 liters — that's enough to make a hoarder giddy with delight. However, in a curious plot twist, the latest 2023 Touareg pondered that perhaps less is more, and thus reduced to a peculiarly tailored 665 liters. One can only wonder at the mystical reasoning behind this shrinkage.

But how does it compare with its corporate siblings? The Touareg swaggers at the top, surpassing even the spacious Tiguan Allspace (760 liters), which must be in a sulk, and leaving the Touran (834 liters) in a bewildering twist of fate as it carries more but is deemed lower in rank. It effortlessly eclipses the lesser beings such as the Golf (381 liters) and the pint-sized Polo (351 liters). It's quite clear, within the VW family, the Touareg is the one who gets a call when one is moving house.

Stacked against its rivals, however, the story gets juicier. Take the Mercedes-Benz GLE, for instance, with its boot volume matching the Touareg's 650 liters in older models, it's like a high-stakes game of poker where both players have an ace up their sleeves. The BMW X6, donning a boot capacity of 570 liters, has style but less substance, while the Land Rover Range Rover Velar, with 552 liters, is rather like a butler — looks the part but can't quite carry as much. Cadillac's Escalade (462 liters) and the Chevrolet Tahoe’s (460 liters) are American giants with surprisingly modest luggage space, yet in absolute volume, Cadillac's XT5 (850 liters) could very well be the venue for an indoor garden party.
