When it comes to boot space in a compact car, every inch matters. This is especially true for the Mazda 2 Hybrid, which strives to give you enough room for your belongings while remaining both stylish and fuel-efficient. With a generous 286 liters of trunk space, the Mazda 2 Hybrid is certainly no joke when it comes to fitting in groceries, shopping bags, or other miscellaneous items. But how does it fare against its rivals and other Mazda models? Let's find out.
Since the Mazda 2 Hybrid is a new model, there is only one generation available: the 2 Hybrid 2 Hybrid ZV (2022 – now). That being said, its trunk size of 286 liters expands to a whopping 935 liters with the rear seats folded down. Compared to the previous Mazda 2 versions, it's safe to say the hybrid model brings with it a welcome improvement in terms of practicality and storage.
In the Mazda lineup, the 2 Hybrid sits towards the lower end of the boot-space spectrum. It has a larger trunk than both the MX-5 RF (127 liters) and the MX-5 Roadster (130 liters). However, the Mazda 2 Hybrid is outperformed by more spacious models such as the Mazda 3 (351 liters), MX-30 (366 liters), and, at the highest end, the CX-60 (570 liters).
When it comes to the Mazda 2 Hybrid's rivals, a few may outshine it in the boot space department. The Skoda Fabia, for example, manages to fit in 380 liters, while the SEAT Ibiza and Honda Jazz both have 355 liters and 354 liters of trunk space, respectively. However, the Mazda 2 Hybrid's 286 liters certainly doesn't fall too far behind its competitors, outdoing the Ford Fiesta (292 liters), Toyota Yaris (also 286 liters), and the Hyundai i20 (262 liters). Compared to the smallest competitor, the MINI MINI with 211 liters of boot space, the Mazda 2 Hybrid is the clear winner.
